E. Gameboy Advance with Pokemon Silver

My first ever console. I remember vividly going to the toy shop on Binnenwegplein in Rotterdam to buy the thing, together with my mom. It would be a birthday gift, a rather expensive one because back in the day it cost 150,- gulden. The game cassette was not included, and the Pokemon games were another 49,50 gulden per game, which was something I saved up for and bought later.

After school me and my friends would meet up and play Pokemon for hours. The game has helped me learn english through trial and error. I remember how Pokemon kept disappearing because the meaning of the words 'delete and store' were unknown to me and so I'd have to guess which one did what.
This visual aid to learning is something I apply in my work, I just realised.

The imaginative world of pokemon is one I shared with my friends. We would sit with the four of us completely zoned out of the real world, and tuned into our handheld consoles. I've always been a dreamer, and being able to share a dreamworld with others made me feel accepted. The endless possibilities of games spoke to me so much I even studied Game Art for four years.

To imagine, is to think of new ways: to speculate about possibilities. In an ever changing world, where nothing is ever certain, being able to come up with creative solutions is great. Flexibility is key to feel secure in the present moment.
